In a bid to ensure justice for all workers in the state and to facilitate the smooth implementation of the newly approved ₦70,000 minimum wage, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Zamfara chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Alhaji Malam Mani Malam Mummuni Matawallen Bukuyyum.
The visit was confirmed in a statement released by the Acting Secretary on behalf of the NLC Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Abubakar.
During the meeting, the NLC Chairman expressed concern over the lingering issues surrounding the wage implementation and emphasized the urgency of resolving them to maintain the harmonious relationship between the government and labour.
He also brought to the Deputy Governor’s attention the plight of workers who were wrongly removed from the payroll without justification. He urged the state government to urgently review these cases and reinstate the affected workers to alleviate their ongoing hardship.
In response, the Deputy Governor welcomed the NLC delegation and commended the maturity and diplomacy with which the labour union has handled the situation. He acknowledged the friendly posture of the NLC towards the government and assured them of the administration’s readiness to resolve all outstanding issues amicably.
He further disclosed that the government would meet with the relevant committee on Tuesday to review the implementation table and address any grey areas. The goal, he said, is to produce a final and accurate salary table for onward submission to the Governor for approval—ensuring that the April 2025 salary is paid without delay.
The Deputy Governor also pledged to personally intervene in ensuring that the workers who were wrongfully removed from the payroll are reinstated as soon as possible.
In conclusion, the NLC leadership called for continued support from stakeholders and reiterated their commitment to pursuing the matter until all concerns are resolved.
