Over 300 Bandits Sighted Crossing from Zamfara to Niger

Around 300 suspected bandits, armed and on motorcycles, were spotted traversing the Kontagora-Minna highway in Niger State's Mariga Local Government Area. The incident occurred in the afternoon, prompting motorists and travelers to seek safety.

Eyewitnesses believe the bandits were migrating from Zamfara State and moved unchecked towards Mashegu Local Government Area. A driver noted the absence of security personnel during the incident.

Mariga Local Government Chairman Abbas Kasuwa Garba confirmed the incident, stating that joint security teams have been deployed to protect communities. Two vigilantes who confronted the bandits were killed, and one injured person is receiving treatment.

The military has mobilized officers from Beri camp to confront the bandits. Efforts to reach the state police command for comment were unsuccessful.
