A devastating attack by bandits on a police formation in Gwarin Ganuwa village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has resulted in the loss of four lives. A police inspector, Abubakar Mohammed, and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed in the early morning attack on Sunday.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. when bandits stormed the village, attempting to overrun the area. A joint team of police operatives and CJTF personnel, part of Operation Restore Peace, engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled the attack.
Unfortunately, during the exchange of fire, Inspector Abubakar Mohammed was fatally shot, and his service AK-47 rifle was stolen by the assailants. Three CJTF members also lost their lives in the confrontation.
The police have deployed reinforcements to the area to recover the stolen firearm and track down the fleeing bandits. However, attempts to reach the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, for further comment were unsuccessful.
